Back by Popular Demand

Last year, students from Mr. Rehrauer's ELA class participated in library enrichment activities.  Skyler and Jenna created a library suggestion box.  If students were looking for a great book recommendation, they could pull a card out of the box and learn about an exciting title that another Pioneer student enjoyed.  The suggestion box took a vacation for the month of September, but is now back in the library to help you with your book selection needs!

Mythology Mania!

Students in Miss Fink's ELA class are beginning a unit about mythology, complete with a reading of Rick Riordan's book The Lightning Thief.  What better way to kick off the unit than by doing some research about some of Greek mythology's most legendary figures?  Students used the Britannica and World Book databases to locate some interesting facts.  The facts will later be used for a gallery walk project...with Greek mythology trading cards!

Where in the World?

Bon anniversaire, Mademoiselle Marshall!  Our seventh grade French teacher extraordinaire is celebrating her birthday today.  As part of the birthday celebration, French 7 students learned about a new, ongoing project called Where in the World.  In order to expand their horizons beyond Pioneer's walls, students will be putting their Internet searching skills to the test in order to locate points of interest in the French-speaking world.

Don't adjust your screen settings!  This is actually a pink lake.

After a discussion about keyword searching and the importance of being a savvy searcher, students learned about the links on the library's Symbaloo that would help with this project.

And in case you were curious, the pink lake is called Lake Retba and is located in Senegal, a country in Africa.  The pink color is due to a high salt content and the creatures that live in the lake!  Next up for French 7 students is an Internet trip to Virunga National Park.
